My wife and I recently retained Leighton Schafer to serve as our general

contractor for the construction of a specialty, high-end building. Leighton was

directly involved from the planning of the project, through the completion of the

finish work. The building, or “cottage” as we refer to it, was finished to our

complete satisfaction.

The project was wood frame construction with high end components that

exceed the quality found in most houses. Lieghton’s attention to detail was

evident during each phase of the project. Leighton excavated and prepared the

building site, and worked closely with the subcontractor who poured the concrete

footings and the floor. He framed the building, installed composite siding, and

installed coated steel shake-style shingles on the roof.

Leighton had excellent rapport with the electrical, plumbing and other

subcontractors and kept them on task. His broad knowledge of all aspects of

construction enabled him to verify that all work was performed to the

specifications for the project and within the construction schedule.

Although he is not always directly involved in finish work, Leighton

handled nearly all of the finish work on our project. He demonstrated his

capabilities and skills in even the finest details of finishing the project. He is all

about meeting and exceeding the expectations of his clients.

Leighton is honest, pleasant to work with, very accessible and demonstrated

excellent communication skills throughout our project. He kept us apprised of

scheduling work from start to finish and finished on time, taking into

consideration some of the wet weather conditions that we encountered.

Leighton and his crew can do more than just framing. We had two challenging remodel projects that he came through with flying colors. First we had a most impractical huge, open walk-in shower that half of your body would always remain cold. Leighton came up with an ingenious and practical design to divide the shower with a closet. Beautiful work and problem solved. Secondly, a puny fireplace mantle was replaced with a more appropriate wooden masterpiece. You can count on Leighton for well thought out and executed designs, on time, quiet, clean, reasonably priced and friendly work. We highly recommend  him.

We really want to thank Leighton for the tremendous job he did replacing  our 20 year old redwood deck. We now have a beautiful Trex, cedar and  powder coat rail deck which we will enjoy for years with almost carefree  maintenance. We were extremely pleased with his thoughtful planning and  attention to detail and especially liked his willingness to allow us to  work with him as it was being built.
